THE VISION
The vision of IEEE SB has been unborn since until the premier university of Ibadan decided to reach beyond her coast seeking for profeesionals to help her realize her still born dream(s). Along the way, she met with different people from the larger IEEE society with different views about the IEEE. She got more than enough gist(s) about The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (IEEE) and was formally invited as a student member almost immediately!
According to Agabi O. (Ex-Chair IEEE SB, Unilag);" we cannot but take it upon ourselves to not only chart a new course for the future of our people and our nation but to be part of the terrain itself, to see for yourself, to know for yourself and toact for all in all honesty!"
The IEEE, founded in 1884 by a handful of innovators in Electrical Engineering (after the amalgamation of the Institute of Radio Engineers (IRE) and the American Institute of Electrical Engineers (AIEE) who understood thevalue of the "network" . Today, the IEEE is light years ahead in providing the latest first class information and the best technical resources to innovators worlwide. Connecting well over 350,000 professionals and student members in more than 150 countries, the IEEE is the world's largest technical professional society and still growing.
IEEE has the goal(s) to advance global prosperity by fosterind technological innovation, enabling member careers and promoting community worlwide. Members of the IEEE have the opprtunity to access that latest in tecnhnical and professional information, much of which is online!
The Nigerian Section of IEEE came back as result of efforts by concerned professionals in the Nigerian Industry. The IEEE was resurscitated on March 28, 2000, with a congress of professionals and student members of the IEEE, at the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) building, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Today, the IEEE Nigerian Section could boast of vibrant IEEE SB on campuses around the nation who are actively involved in the professional development and social enlightenment of the Nigerian society at large.
